The History of Hills Academy
History of Hills Academy: Foundation
Founded in 2016 by educators Mr. and Mrs. Hilburn, Hills Academy began as an academic support program for homeschooled boys in East Metro Atlanta. Recognizing the need for hands-on, engaging education tailored to boys, the Hilburns established Hills Academy as a nonprofit private school in 2017.
With a focus on academic excellence, character development, and strong mentorship, Hills Academy quickly earned full accreditation from the Georgia Accrediting Commission. Today, it continues to serve as a transformative space where young men grow into confident, college- and career-ready leaders.
History of Hills Academy: Establishment
Established in Fall 2016, Hills Academy has quickly become a trusted and respected presence in the community. Recognized by community leaders, families, and supporters, Hills Academy is more than a nonprofit—it’s a driving force in shaping the next generation of young men. Through our commitment to academic excellence, character development, and leadership, we’ve played a vital role in increasing the number of college- and career-ready young Black males.
History of Hills Academy: Mascot
The mascot of Hills Academy is the Knight. We believe that the Knight is the noblest and valuable part of the King's Army. At Hills Academy all of our knights possess 5 key characteristics:
Courage - Deuteronomy 31:6 - "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Faith - Hebrews 11:1 - "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
Integrity - Proverbs 11:3 - "The integrity of the upright guides them..."
Leadership - Matthew 20:26 - "Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,"
Service - 1 Peter 4:10 - "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms."
